There are about 170,000 known species of butterflies and moths, with an amazing diversity in size, shape and color. Their ability to adapt to almost any climate and habitat has made them some of the most successful creatures on Earth. Like all insects, moths and butterflies go through a metamorphosis, or change of form, during their lifespan. By observing the diversity of butterflies and moths and studying their life stages as well as behavior, we can better understand and value these unique insects.
